450 Israeli Violations Documented against Journalists in 2015

RAMALLAH, November 2, 2015 (WAFA) – Since the beginning of this year, Israel committed 450 violations against Palestinian and international journalists in the occupied Palestinian Territory, reported the Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) on Monday.

In a press release issued on the occasion of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, MADA said of those 450 violations documented this year, at least 100 of them occurred during October 2015 alone.

MADA said that the year 2014 witnessed the bloodiest crimes committed by Israel against journalists, with 17 Palestinian journalists killed during Israel’s aggression on Gaza.

The group condemned Israel’s continuing use of violence against journalists, saying lack of accountability has encouraged Israel to perpetrate more crimes against journalists.

On Friday, a video posted online showed Israeli Border Police officers attacking medical staff and journalists during clashes with Palestinian youths at the northern entrance of al-Bireh city in the West Bank.

An Israeli Border Police guard was shown pepper-spraying journalists and medical staff at the scene where a Palestinian was run over an injured by a Border Police vehicle.
