RAMALLAH, August 3, 2014 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian leadership called on the international community, particularly the United Nations, the U.S. administration, the European Union, Russia, China, and the rest of the world countries, to immediately intervene to force Israel to stop its aggression and to respond to the Egyptian initiative.
Abbas held Israel responsible for its position and the serious repercussions that result from the continuation of the war on the Palestinian people.
He said that Israel continues its aggression, crimes and the open war against the Palestinian people, including the shelling and bombing of another UNRWA-run school, this time in Rafah, which led to the death and injury of dozens of children, women and elderly.
He added: ‘During the past 27 days, Israel has killed and injured 17 Palestinian civilians every hour; killing one Palestinian child every three hours since the start of the aggression’.
He said, the Palestinian leadership, including all of the Palestinian factions, responded to the international community’s proposals of a cease-fire; a humanitarian cease-fire for 72 hours, which was also endorsed by the United Nations, and the United States, yet this truce collapsed within two hours, as a result of Israel’s continued aggression on the Gaza Strip.
He added: ‘We sent a Palestinian delegation to Cairo for confirmation of our commitment and our desire to stop the war, aggression and bloodshed of our people, yet the Israeli government refused to send a delegation to Cairo under flimsy pretexts.
