Abbas Issues Instructions Banning Torture

RAMALLAH, May 14, 2013 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas Tuesday issued instructions to all concerned parties to abide by the laws banning all forms of torture.

He instructed all parties to abide by the terms of the Basic Law and relevant laws that ban all forms of torture, humiliating treatment and behavior that affects human dignity.

 

‘Instructions

Regarding emphasis on commitment to banning all forms of torture

Based on the Basic law, amended in 2003,

In light of the report of the Independent Commission for Human Rights number (18) for 2013

By the powers vested in me,

And to achieve public interest,

We issued the following

First:

Stress on the parties concerned with detention, interrogation and imprisonment to abide by the terms of the Basic law and relevant laws that ban all forms of torture, humiliating treatment and behavior that affects human dignity, and respect all agreements, charters, conventions international announcements relevant to human rights, in order to highlight the civil side of the Palestinian people.

Second:

Stress on all concerned parties to take necessary measures to activate and develop the work of the monitoring tools in order to guarantee the implementation of these relevant instructions and laws.
