Abbas Phones Palestinian Arab Idol Star

RAMALLAH, May 11, 2013 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas made a phone call Saturday to Muhammad Assaf, a Palestinian contestant on the renowned reality TV show “Arab Idol,” to congratulate him on his success on the show.

Abbas confirmed his support of the singer and said that Assaf has made Palestine and the Arab world proud, urging Palestinians and Arabs to vote for the singer in hopes that he will be crowned the next Arab Idol.

Assaf, who is from Gaza, went through much trouble to reach Cairo, where the auditions were first held.

He proved to be among the favorites of the four judges on the Arab Idol panel at the Beirut contests and has gained much recognition in Palestine and the Arab world in general for his singing ability.

“Arab Idol” is the Arab version of “American Idol” and is watched by most of the Arab world. The show is in its second season and is quickly gaining its contestants recognition and popularity, especially the Palestinian, Muhammad Assaf.
