Algerian President Calls on International Community to Help Restore Palestinian Rights

ALGIERS, November 25, 2014 (WAFA) – Algerian President, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Tuesday called upon the international community to uphold their responsibilities and help restore the legitimate inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, on top of which the right to statehood based on the 1967 borders.

Bouteflika’s call was made in a letter that was sent to the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

He said that Israel’s intransigence would not continue if the international “actors” uphold their responsibilities towards the Palestinian people and pressure Israel to abide by the resolutions of the international legitimacy.

Bouteflika said settlement activities, Judaization of Jerusalem, and the continuing siege of Gaza have constituted a “substantial obstacle against efforts made to achieve a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian cause.”

He added that the Palestinian people are currently suffering more than any other time due to the escalating Israeli practices, such as settlement construction, and all of its violations of human rights and international conventions.

The Algerian President reiterated his country’s support of the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights, on top of which the right to statehood and independence.
