RAMALLAH, October 14, 2014 (WAFA) – PLO Executive Committee member Hanan Ashrawi Monday called upon the British government to set right what she described as the “historical injustice done to the Palestinian people,” by adopting steps to recognize Palestine and end the Israeli occupation.
In a press release welcoming the vote of the British Parliament to urge its government to recognize the Palestine as an official state, Ashrawi said, “This vote sends the right message to the British government and the rest of Europe. It will enhance the European voices calling for the recognition of Palestine and will create the right environment for the international community to grant the Palestinian people legal parity and rights.”
She stressed that the recognition of Palestine and its people is a principled decision, a significant step towards justice and peace and a nonnegotiable right to self-determination.
Ashrawi explained that the recognition of a Palestinian state is not conditioned by the outcome of negotiations with Israel. She said, “This claim is not only unfair, but immoral.”
