JERUSALEM, November 18, 2015 (WAFA) – At least five Palestinian students were injured during clashes which erupted on Wednesday between Israeli police and Palestinian protesters, mostly students, in the neighborhood of Jabal al-Mukabir in Jerusalem.
Witnesses told WAFA that clashes erupted between Israeli police and school students; where the former used rubber-coated steel ammunition to disperse the students, shooting and injuring at least five of them.
This came as forces violently suppressed a rally commemorating the first anniversary of the killing of two Palestinian locals by Israeli police in 2014.
Tension has been rising in Jerusalem and the West Bank amid reports of Israel’s attempts to divide al-Aqsa Mosque compound, Islam’s third holiest place, between Muslims and Jews.
At least 89 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the outbreak of unrest in early October 2015, while over 3,500 others were injured by live ammunition or rubber-coated steel rounds. Some 6,300 others also sustained suffocation due to teargas inhalation.
