GAZA Under Fire Report: Israel Continues Targeting Palestinian Families in Gaza

RAMALLAH, August 25, 2014 (WAFA) – PLO Negotiations Affairs Department issued Monday ‘Gaza Under Fire’ Report: Israel’s Criminal Assault on the Occupied State of Palestine, shedding light on killing entire Palestinian families by the Israel in Gaza.

The report provided a statistical overview on 51 days of the Israeli aggression against the occupied Gaza over the period July 6th to August 25th.

“Over the past 24-hours, Israeli occupation forces killed at least 19 Palestinians and injured more than 72. Israel continued targeting Palestinian families as warplanes shelled the Judeh Family home in Gaza City killing five of its members: Tasneem Judeh and her children Rawya, Raghd, Usama and Mohammad. Since the beginning of the Israeli criminal assault on Gaza, Israel has decimated about 90 families, killing at least 530 family members,” said the PLO Department.

According to the report, it is estimated that at least 2,123 Palestinians have been killed and at least 10,861 injured by Israeli Forces since the beginning of the Israeli aggression, the majority of them are civilians. Of those killed there are at least 577 children, 260 women and 101elderly.

“Israel’s deliberate targeting of civilians is a flagrant violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 to protect civilians during war. Israel is committing a war crime, a crime against humanity. We will follow those war criminals and bring them to justice,” the report quoted Director of the Palestine Center for Human Rights in Gaza (PCHR) Raji Sourani as saying.

According to the report, between July 6th 00:00 a.m. to August 22nd 12:00 p.m., 2,123 Palestinians were killed and 10,861 were injured.

The report also showed that 9,600 structures were demolished, 7,600 structures were partially demolished, 40,000 homes were damaged and 277 schools were also damaged; 141 government schools and 136 UNRWA-run schools.

The report also showed that 10 hospitals and 7 PHC clinics were damaged, 5 hospitals and 44 primary health clinics were closed, 16 ambulances were damaged, 83 health personnel injured, 23 health personnel died after Israeli airstrike. In terms of attacks against religious sites, the report showed that 66 mosques cannot be used, 197 have been partially damaged, ten Muslim cemeteries have been targeted, two churches and one Christian cemetery have been partially damaged.

Regarding internally-displaced persons, the report pointed out that not less than 600,000 people are displaced (almost one third of the Gaza population) –1,700,000 people (the entire population of the Gaza Governorates) have been affected by the destruction of electricity, water and waste water infrastructures.

“Lack of accountability will continue to fuel Israeli atrocities and crimes. Lack of international action will continue to increase the list of people killed, injured and displaced,” concluded the PLO department.
