Hamdallah Seeks International Intervention against Israeli Escalation

RAMALLAH, June 16, 2014 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah reiterated, during a meeting with the Chairman of the Party of Democratic Socialism Gregor Gysi, his demand for the international community, especially the EU, to immediately intervene to stop the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

He also addressed the need to save the lives of administrative prisoners, who have been on hunger strike for 54 days.

Hamdallah briefed the guest on the daily Israeli attacks against Palestinians; the latest was the shooting of a young Palestinian from Jalazoon refugee camp near Ramallah and the arrest of more than 100 Palestinian citizens, including members of the Legislative Council.

He expressed his rejection of the administrative detention policy carried out by Israel, stressing that it is illegal according to the international conventions, and stressed the need to compel Israel to release them without any conditions.

Hamdallah stressed the Palestinian people and leadership’s will towards the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, based on the principles of democracy and fairness, and a partner in peace, that exists without the presence of Israeli settlements, which the whole world says are illegitimate.

In the meantime, Hamdallah commended Germany’s recognition and support for the consensus government, pointing out the need to urge the European Union to play a key role to push forward the political process, in order to achieve the Palestinian ambition of freedom and independence.
