RAMALLAH, August 6, 2014 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah Wednesday called for the intervention of all countries, especially Italy, to pressure Israel to end its siege in order to reach a long lasting solution in the Gaza Strip, said the Palestinian Government Media Center.
Hamdallah’s remarks came as he received Fabrizio Chiquito, Head of Foreign Relations Committee of the Italian Parliament, and the Italian Consulate David Sicilia, in his office in Ramallah, according to the PGMC.
While he discussed with the delegation the possibilities to extend the cease-fire and send emergency humanitarian aid to Gaza, Hamdallah “reasserted the government’s commitment and responsibility to intensify relief efforts in Gaza as it will send the second medical team to Gaza, consisting of 12 doctors, and it is working on finding solutions to supply power to Gaza.”
Hamdallah said: “Gaza is an open air prison as the 8 years Israeli blockade persists. This air, land and sea barricade should end immediately as it violates international and humanitarian norms”.
On his part, Chiquito confirmed the readiness of Italy to fully cooperate to end the Gaza blockade, saying Italy is one of the pioneer countries in supporting the rehabilitation of Gaza, donating €5 million for relief and sending the first humanitarian aid plane.
