Israel Launches Airstrikes on Four Gaza Areas

SEPTEMBER 30, 2015 (WAFA) – Israeli warplanes carried out a series of airstrikes against the Gaza Strip last night, in yet another act of aggression against the besieged coastal territory, media sources reported.

The aerial assaults, which were launched in the early hours of Wednesday morning, reportedly hit four areas in and outside Gaza city, resulting in partial damage. There were no reports of casualties.

The attacks came hours after Israeli media sources said a projectile allegedly fired from the center of Gaza was intercepted by the so-called Iron Dome missile system over the city of Ashdod on the Mediterranean shore.

The Israeli military blamed the Palestinian resistance movement of Hamas for the rocket attack, but according to Israeli daily Haaretz, a Salafist-affiliated group, called the Omar Hadid Brigade, claimed responsibility for the rocket fire.

Last year, Israel launched a relentless war on Gaza which claimed the lives of about 2,200 Palestinians, mostly civilians, and left more than 10,000 injured. Hundreds of thousands others are currently displaced and live in makeshift caravans or in UNRWA-run schools.

Since 2007, Israel has imposed a blockade on Gaza, which has caused a serious decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.
