JERUSALEM, June 6, 2013 (WAFA) – Israeli police closed al-Aqsa Mosque area for visitors and kept it open for Muslims only as they celebrate al-Isra Wal Miraj holiday, according to the police.
The holiday, considered one of the few miracles in the Muslim history, marks the night journey of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem on his horse, Buraq, and his ascension to heaven. Muslims mark this day with religious activities.
As a result of police closure of the Mosque to non-Muslim, Jewish fanatics, who have been using the visitation program to carry out almost daily provocative tours of the compound, said they will carry out other activities outside the gates of the Mosque and at the Western Wall.
They also said they will continue on their tours on Sunday and called on other Jewish groups to join them.
The fanatics want al-Aqsa Mosque destroyed and replaced by a Jewish temple.
