Israeli Police Fatally Shoots Palestinian Teenager in East Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, October 17, 2015 (WAFA) – A Palestinian teenager Saturday was fatally shot by Israeli Police after he allegedly attempted to stab an Israeli police officer in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabal al-Mukaber.

Israeli media outlets claimed that Israeli police – who stopped and searched the  teenager while he was present near the illegal Israeli settlement  of Armon Hanatziv’ in Jerusalem – shot Muta’az Owaisat, 16, after he allegedly attempted to stab an Israeli police officer, killing him at the scene. Witnesses at the scene said that police shot the teenager from a short distance.

Following the killing of Owaisat, large Israeli police troops were deployed in the area, where they imposed a tight military cordon and prevented journalists’ access into the area.

To be noted, Owaisat is the cousin of Baha’a Ellyan,  who was shot and killed by Israeli police on October 13, 2015, after allegedly carrying out a shooting and stabbing attack in an Israeli bus in Jabal al-Mukaber area.

The killing of Owaisat brings the total number of Palestinians killed in Jabal al-Mukaber area during the ongoing unrest in West Bank and Jerusalem, to 4 people.

Earlier Saturday, An 18-year-old Palestinian Saturday was shot by an Israeli setter in central Hebron, in the southern Western Bank, where he was left to die by Israeli soldiers who prevented paramedics from administering medical assistance to him.
