BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) — Israel’s military has imposed a general closure on the occupied West Bank as it prepares to face protests marking Land Day, officials said Friday.
“In accordance with the directives of the Minister of Defense and as part of the situation assessments in the IDF, a general closure will be implemented in the Judea and Samaria region,” a statement said.
“For the duration of the closure, persons in need of medical attention, humanitarian aid or exceptional cases will be permitted to pass for care, with the authorization of the Civil Administration.”
Land Day is commemorated annually in Israel and the occupied territories. It marks a deadly crackdown on protests on March 30, 1976 in which six Palestinians lost their lives in the Galilee.
This year’s demonstrations coincide with the Global March to Jerusalem.
