Ki-Moon Welcomes 72-Hour Ceasefire Agreement between Israel and Gaza

NEW YORK, August 5, 2014 (WAFA) – United Nations Secretary General Ban  Ki-Moon, in a press statement Monday, welcomed the declared 72-hour ceasefire agreed to by both the Israeli and the Palestinian sides, urging both sides to commit to the truce and to exercise self-control to the utmost degree, reported Agence France-Presse (AFP)

He called on both sides to promptly begin talks as soon as possible in Cairo in order to reach a permanent ceasefire and address the conflict’s root causes.

He stressed the United Nations readiness to provide all support to efforts exerted toward resolving the conflict.
