Newspaper Review: Abbas’ Visit to Russia Focus of Dailies

RAMALLAH, April 15, 2015 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted on Wednesday remarks made by President Mahmoud Abbas, during his official visit to Russia, where he said that Israel was seeking to wreck the two-state solution for Middle East conflict.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Abbas as saying that Israel continues to treat itself as a state above the law, by prolonging its occupation of the Palestinian territories.

The three dailies said the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem demolished a four-storey building and a caravan in Wadi el-Joz in East Jerusalem, under the pretext of construction without a permit.

The three dailies said Palestinian cabinet ministers decided to head to Gaza next Sunday, in an effort to propel intra-Palestinian reconciliation and bring about solutions to all pending issues.

Al-Quds said a preliminary Israeli report uncovered that the Israeli army deliberately targeted and killed dozens of Palestinian civilians on August 1, 2014 in Rafah, to prevent Palestinian resistance fighters from abducting Lieutenant Hadar Goldin.

On a different note, al-Ayyam said elements of the Islamic State group withdrew from large parts of the besieged al-Yarmouk refugee camp, south of Damascus, days after they had taken it over from Aknaf Bayt al-Maqdis brigade.
