Newspaper Review: Dailies Highlight Abbas’ Decree to Form Committee to Follow Up with ICC

RAMALLAH, February 8, 2015 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted in their Sunday issue a decree issued by President Mahmoud Abbas to form a national committee to follow-up with the International Criminal Court (ICC) regarding possible Israeli war crimes committed against Palestinians.

They said the committee is tasked with collecting documents and testimonial evidence in preparation for prosecuting Israel at ICC for crimes allegedly perpetrated during the 2014 Israeli aggression on Gaza.

In a different subject, Al-Ayyam said a Palestinian from Gaza sustained serious burns throughout his body after setting himself on fire, [in protest] of his poor [financial situation] as a result  of Gaza’s deteriorating economic crisis.

Al-ayyam and al-hayyat al-Jadida said US-based Jewish organizations denied having anything to do with an anticipated visit by Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu to the United States.

It said Israeli army arrested four Palestinians in the West Bank on Saturday and claimed they detected weapons near Jerusalem.

Al-Quds said Israeli soldiers suppressed a peaceful protest organized by youth activists in Hebron. The protest was against the Israeli wall and settlement activities.

It reported that Israeli navy continues to target Palestinian fishermen’s boats offshore Gaza.

Al-Hayyat al-Jadida quoted Jordan’s [foreign minister] pledging to get rid of the [so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria group] ISIS.
