RAMALLAH, March 29, 2015 (WAFA) – Remarks made by President Mahmoud Abbas during Saturday’s Arab League Summit 26th session, that East Jerusalem is experiencing its final pre-Judaization moments, made headlines in the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Sunday.
Abbas also warned against establishing a state in Gaza and creating self-rule in the West Bank, while also voiced support for consolidating the Palestinian reconciliation, he was quoted by the dailies.
Al-Ayyam said Arab leaders, convening in Sharm el-Sheikh’s city of Egypt, agreed on establishing a joint Arab battalion to fight extremist groups. Meanwhile, al-Quds said the Palestinian issue was a central issue in the discussions.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Egyptian President Abdul-Fattah el-Sisi, who said that resolving the Palestinian issue is a key to enhancing regional stability.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said illegal Israeli settlers Saturday uprooted about 1,200 Palestinian-owned olive saplings in the Hebron town of al-Shuyukh.
Al-Hayat and al-Ayyam said Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki will head to The Hague on Wednesday, to attend the accession ceremony of the State of Palestine to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Al-Ayyam reported on continuing airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition, dubbed “Operation Decisive Storm,” against Houthis in Yemen, adding that hundreds of international staff were evacuated from Yemen.
Al-Quds said hundreds of Yemenis, including Houthi fighters, were killed in the Saudi and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)-led airstrikes on Yemen on Saturday.
