Newspaper Review: Dailies Highlight Cancelation of Jordan Valley’s Status

RAMALLAH, March 9, 2015 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted in their Monday issue a recent Israeli  plan to cancel the status of an army firing zone in the Jordan Valley, which is to expand the illegal settlement of Ma’ale Adumim.

Al-Quds highlighted in its main news story remarks made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, pledging not to allow the creation of an independent state of Palestine. Netanyahu also pledged not to pull out from the West Bank, stressing that Israel will not allow any concessions in favor of the Palestinians.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Zionist Union list, running for Israeli parliamentary elections, said it would only allow for the creation of a “demilitarized” Palestinian state, with Jerusalem being and remaining the capital of “Jews.”

Al-Ayyam said the Union’s electoral platform aims to determine and secure the permanent borders of Israel as a “Jewish and democratic state” by launching a diplomatic and security initiative.

The paper quoted remarks made by the Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who said there was no way to reach a peace settlement with the Palestinians, and called for transferring the Arab city of Umm el-Fahm to the future Palestinian state.

Meanwhile, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said the Israeli army razed a Palestinian owned land in the village of Kisan, east of Bethlehem, in order to establish an Israeli factory.
