Newspaper Review: Egypt Court Labels Hamas “Terror Group” Focus of Dailies

RAMALLAH, March 1, 2015 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Sunday issue on an Egyptian court’s ruling which labeled the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, as a terror group.

Al-Ayyam and al-Quds said the Israeli government has ordered the construction of a new settlement neighborhood in the illegal settlement of Beitar Illit, in the southern West Bank.

They said a Palestinian was killed and few others were injured after an explosive device, left by the Israeli army in Rafah, detonated.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam quoted Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who called upon his government to “expel the Arab extremists” out of the country.

Al-Ayyam said about 10 Palestinian youngsters were injured by live bullets and others suffocated by teargas inhalation, during confrontations with the Israeli army near Ofer prison on Saturday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was starting a “controversial” visit to the United States, aiming to hamper the potential for an international agreement with regards to the Iranian nuclear program.

Al-Quds said the Israeli authorities decided to consider substantial cuts from frozen Palestinian clearance revenues, collected on behalf of the Palestinian Authority, to offset the PA’s electricity debt.

It said the Finance Ministry considered the step “illegal” and promised to seek redemption of the funds.
