Newspapers Review: Abbas to Resubmit UNSC Bid for Statehood Focus of Dailies

RAMALLAH, January 13, 2015 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted in their Tuesday issue remarks made by President Mahmoud Abbas, in which he said the Palestinian Authority is going to seek a new United Nations Security Council bid to end the Israeli occupation.

Al-Ayyam said Abbas warned against the development of the current Arab-Israeli conflict into a religious strife.

The three dailies quoted Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, who said that the leadership will not accept an interim solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said Israeli police and the security agency, Shin Bet, shut down three Islamic institutions in Jerusalem and Nazareth. The three institutions are the property of the Islamic Movement in Israel.

The three dailies quoted Pope Francis of the Catholic Church as saying that peace in the Middle East can only be achieved after demarcating clear borders between the Palestinian state and Israel.

The dailies quoted spokesperson of the Palestinian Government Ehab Bseiso, who said that the current crisis facing the Palestinian Authority in paying public servant wages, caused after Israel froze the PA’s tax revenues, will soon be resolved. Israeli recently froze tax revenues it collects on behalf of the PA after the latter signed a letter of accession to the ICC.
