Northern Jordan Valley Shut Down as Residents Ordered Out

AL-MALEH, JORDAN VALLEY, September 17, 2013 (WAFA) – The Israeli army Tuesday closed all checkpoints leading to the northern Jordan Valley area and prevented students and teachers from passing through them to reach their schools, according to Aref Daraghme, head of al-Maleh village council.

He said the soldiers had already ordered more than 100 people living in the area to evacuate it and leave their homes for several days while they carry out military exercise in the area. The families left early in the morning, he said.

Daraghme warned that the army normally uses live ammunition during the drill and they leave behind several live shells after they finish and leave the area, which could pose serious threat to the children and residents after they return to their homes.
