NEW YORK, July 3, 2014 (WAFA) – Palestine’s Permanent Observer to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, sent identical letters to the UN Secretary General, President of the UN Security Council and President of the UN General Assembly briefing them on the escalating Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza.
He said that Israel continues with its airstrikes on Gaza and its military crackdown on Palestinian civilian communities, resulting in the loss of lives and injury cases, in addition to the destruction of homes and private property, which are a blatant violation of international law and the Fourth Geneva Convention.
Mansour pointed out to the heinous crime of kidnapping and killing 17-year-old Mohammad Abu-Khdeir in cold blood by a group of settlers, as well as failed attempts to kidnap other children in the Jerusalem suburb of Beit Hanina and the running over of a female Palestinian child, who sustained severe injuries, by an Israeli settler.
He held the Israeli government responsible for the impunity of these settlers who continue to assault Palestinian civilians and their property.
He called upon the international community and the UN Secretary Council to condemn the crime, as well as to promptly act to put an end to such violations committed against the Palestinian people, including the collective punishment policy, incitement and reprisals, which are all forbidden under Fourth Geneva Convention.
Mansour asserted the Israel is responsible for the transfer of its people to the occupied Palestinian Territory and that it should categorically condemn this act and bring those in charge to justice immediately.
He said hundreds of Israelis wrecked havoc in Jerusalem streets and violently beat up five Palestinians while chanting anti-Arab slogans such as “death to Arabs”. The attack coincided with the Israeli airstrikes on besieged Gaza and the destruction of people’s property and the infrastructure.
He also highlighted Israel’s demolition of two homes in Hebron whose owners are accused by Israel of allegedly kidnapping and killing three Israeli settlers, aside from the massive arrests and ongoing raids on the West Bank governorates.
He said ‘this dangerous situation requires prompt attention and serious action by the international community, and that the UN Secretary Council should uphold its responsibilities and preserve international peace and security.
