Palestinian Succumbs to Wounds Sustained Days Earlier in Gaza Clashes

KHAN YOUNES, October 24, 2015 (WAFA) – A Palestinian Saturday succumbed to wounds he sustained – in early October – after being shot by Israeli forces during a demonstration to the east of Khan Younes in the southern Gaza Strip, near Gaza-Israel borderline.

WAFA correspondent identified the man as Khalil Abu Obeid, 25, from al-Amal neighborhood to the west of Khan Younes.

He also reported that Abu Obeid sustained serious wounds after being shot by Israeli forces during clashes that erupted in al-Farrahim locality, east of Khan Younes.

In the aftermath of his wounds, Abu Obeid was rushed into Nasser Hospital in Khan Younes and then referred to al-Makassed Hospital in Jerusalem, where he was pronounced dead almost three weeks later.

This came as a 16-year-old Ahmad Kamil was shot dead by Israeli forces near al-Jalama military checkpoint, north of Jenin allegedly for attempting to stab a soldier.

This brings the total number of Palestinians who have been shot dead by Israeli forces since the first of October to 57, including 13 children and Fadi al-Darbi, 30, a detainee, who died ten days ago in the Israeli hospital of Soroka after suffering a brain stroke as a result of deliberate medical negligence by Israeli Prison Service.

Obeid is the 17th Palestinian to be shot dead by Israeli forces in Gaza since the beginning of this month. Fifteen have been shot with live ammunition during clashes  in  Gaza and a two-year-old and her pregnant mother were killed in an Israeli airstrike on their home.

According to Palestinian Health Ministry, children comprised 23.2% of the total number of Palestinians shot dead since the first of October.

Forty Palestinians were shot dead by Israeli forces during clashes in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and 17 were reportedly shot dead in the Gaza Strip. Another Palestinian was shot dead in the Neqev town of Hura inside the 1948 occupied land.
