RAMALLAH, December 8, 2014 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah commended the roles of the United Nations organizations in the reconstruction process of the Gaza Strip, and particularly the United Nations Office for Project Services ‘UNOPS’ considering their fundamental role through providing financial aid and specialized consulting.
This came during a meeting with a delegation from the UN headed by Grete Faremo, the Executive Board of the United Nations Office for Project Services, at the Prime Minister’s office in Ramallah on Monday.
During the meeting, Hamdallah briefed the delegation on the latest political developments in the region and discussed the progress of the reconstruction process of the Gaza Strip.
He also discussed possible ways to accelerate the Gaza reconstruction process through exerting more pressure on donor countries to fulfill their financial commitments pledged during the Gaza Reconstruction Conference which took place in Cairo last October.
Hamdallah said that the Consensus Government was able to remove the rubble, repair a large number of houses, electricity networks, water and sewage networks despite the lack of resources and funding supplies.
The Prime Minister also confirmed the willingness of the Consensus Government to reconstruct the Strip in accordance to plans prepared and set throughout the Gaza Reconstruction Conference.
In this regard, Faremo expressed the ‘UNOPS’ commitment to providing all forms of support and consultations to the Palestinian government, stressing the importance of coordinating efforts between all concerned parties in order to accelerate the reconstruction process.
