Presidency Condemns New Settlement Housing

RAMALLAH, December 18, 2012 (WAFA) – The presidency condemned on Monday an Israeli government decision to build 1500 new housing units in occupied East Jerusalem. Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, told WAFA that “this decision defies the entire international community and underestimates the feelings of Palestinians and the Arab people.”

He said that “this action will isolate Israel as the whole world now rejects occupation and recognizes a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders.” The Israeli ministry of interior approved on Monday a plan to build 1500 new units in Ramat Shlomo settlement north of Jerusalem.

The Israeli government increased its settlement activities in the West bank and East Jerusalem in response to upgrading Palestine’s status in the United Nations to non member observer state.
