RAMALLAH, December 7, 2014 (WAFA) – PLO Executive Committee member, Hanan Ashrawi, said on Sunday that the two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is reaching an end.
“We are in a state of crisis and reaching the end of the two-state solution,” said Ashrawi as she met with representatives of the American Council of Young Political Leaders at the PLO Headquarters in Ramallah.
“The Israeli occupation is a liability for everyone; unless there is a serious effort by all members of the international community, including the United Nations, the European Union, and the United States, to intervene and to hold Israel accountable, Israel will succeed in superimposing ‘Greater Israel’ on historical Palestine and destroying the chances for peace, plunging the entire region into grave instability, violence and extremism,” she stressed.
She added, “We will remain undeterred in our efforts to safeguard the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and freedom,” adding the leadership will approach the United Nations Security Council to set a specific deadline to “ending the military occupation and establishing the independent Palestinian state on 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.”
Ashrawi briefed the visiting delegation on the latest Palestinian political developments, Israeli intransigence and defiance of international law and Palestinian human rights, Israel’s measures designed to destroy the very foundations of peace, including its illegal settlement enterprise and policies that isolate Jerusalem from its Palestinian environs.
She also discussed Israel’s latest set of laws and programs that legalize discrimination and “xenophobia,” the ongoing blockade in Gaza and Israeli violence against Gaza, Palestinian political prisoners, and the status of Palestinian reconciliation and elections.
Meanwhile, Ashrawi discussed the American-Israeli strategic alliance and how Israel receives preferential treatment, including a complete legal, security and economic cover, from the United States.
