Union signs agreement with Fayyad to end school strikes

RAMALLAH, February 12, 2013 (Ma’an) – The Palestinian Authority has responded positively to several demands made by the union of teachers. As a result, the union has decided to suspend strike action.

Ahmad Suhweil told Ma’an Tuesday that he had signed an agreement with prime minister of the PA, Salam Fayyad. In this agreement the government has approved seven demands submitted by the union.

The demands approved by the government included e.g. the resumption of a regular promotion system, recognition of teaching as a profession, and adherence to the career ladder.

Afterwards, Suhweil confirmed that classes would start regularly from Wednesday.
