WAFA Assumes Presidency of Alliance of the Mediterranean News Agencies

RAMALLAH, June 14, 2013 (WAFA) – The Alliance of the Mediterranean News Agencies ‘AMAN’ Friday wrapped up the 22nd General Assembly conference in Ramallah with the Palestine News Agency ‘WAFA’ assuming presidency for the year 2013-2014.

Former AMAN President Stefano Polli – ANSA, handed over the alliance’s presidency to Chairman of Board of WAFA Riyad al-Hasan to lead the alliance for a whole year.

Al-Hasan expressed delight for this opportunity given to WAFA and promised to cooperate closely with all parties to make this year a success.

George Pentintaex, AMAN acting director – CNA, thanked al-Hasan for hosting this conference in Ramallah as well as Polli for all achievements in 2012.

He discussed a number of reports by members of AMAN and announced that the next AMAN General Assembly meeting is going to take place in Spain.

AMAN discussed its financial report, projects implemented by AMAN in 2012 as well as future suggestions and exchanged suggestions to overcome certain issues and efforts to develop its work.

It announced the winners in the competition AMAN holds every year for the best Photo and news piece, the Tunisian Journalist Bahija Belmabrouk for the best written text and photojournalist Alessandro Di Meo – ANSA, for the best photo.

Deputy Secretary General for the Union for the Mediterranean Rafiq Husseini expressed hope that AMAN would open the doors for wider membership.

At the end of the conference, Croatian News Agency ‘Hina’ Director Branka Valentic and the Albanian News Agency signed two agreements with al-Hasan for mutual cooperation and information exchange.
