RAMALLAH, May 1, 2013 (WAFA) – Palestinian labor unions marked Wednesday the International Labor Day with a rally in the center of Ramallah.
Officials, members of the unions and workers marched through the city streets led by scout bands playing music.
Speakers at the rally held in the center of Ramallah praised the workers for their efforts in building the state institutions with Minister of Labor Ahmad Majdalani citing government achievements toward workers’ rights, particularly introduction of the minimum wage law that became effective the beginning of this year.
Haidar Ibrahim, secretary of the General Union of Palestinian Workers, urged the government to guarantee a decent wage for the workers as well as a health and social insurance plan that would help workers overcome poverty and deprivation.
The government has declared Labor Day as an annual national holiday.
