RAMALLAH, April 6, 2013 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas discussed Saturday with Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird the peace process and political developments in the region.
Abbas, who received Baird at this Ramallah office, reiterated his commitment to peace based on international law and the two-state solution to establish a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.
He emphasized the importance of stopping settlement activities and releasing prisoners arrested before the signing of the Oslo accords in 1993 in order to bolster efforts aiming to break the deadlock in the peace process.
Baird earlier met Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, who briefed the Canadian official on the latest political and economic developments in Palestine.
