RAMALLAH, August 7, 2014 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday received a letter from Swiss President Didier Burkhalter on the latest developments regarding Palestine’s request for the convening of a conference of the high contracting parties of the fourth Geneva Convention.
The letter was handed over to Abbas as he received the Swiss representative to Palestine in the Presidency headquarters in Ramallah.
The Swiss ambassador said his country has appointed a special ambassador to follow up with talks with the contracting parties, urging them to hold the meeting as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, President Abbas expressed his appreciation to the Swiss positions towards the achieving the Middle East peace process. He noted to the importance of holding the meeting so as to insure international protection to the Palestinian people and to prevent recurrence of the recent Israeli aggression, as well as to bring the war criminals to justice.
