RAMALLAH, August 22, 2013 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas Thursday told representatives from the Israeli Meretz party headed by its chairwoman Zahava Gal-On that he is committed to achieve a comprehensive and just peace based on the two-state solution in order to establish the independent state of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital.
He told the Israeli politicians at his Ramallah headquarters that the Palestinian leadership is interested in the success of the negotiations with the Israelis launched under the auspices of the United States in order to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Abbas also stressed that the ongoing Israeli settlement activities do not create the right atmosphere for the current negotiations, affirming that the release of prisoners is a totally separate issue from the launch of negotiations.
For their part, Meretz members affirmed their support for peace between the Palestinian and Israeli people based on the two-state solution.
Gal-On also affirmed her party’s support to the current negotiations in order to end the conflict and achieve peace and security.
