Activists Hold Symbolic Birthday for Gazan Wounded Children

JERUSALEM, August 24, 2014 (WAFA) – The SAND Youth group held on Sunday a symbolic birthday celebration, at Makassed Hospital in Jerusalem, for the wounded Gazan children for having survived the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

Bashar al-Mashni, an activist with the group, said the activity aims at refreshing the psychological state of the wounded children who had experienced the horrors of the Israeli massacres in Gaza.

A grandparent who was accompanying her wounded grandchild in the hospital said that this initiative contributes in healing the psychological state of the children whose childhood was violated after having lived through the worst times of shelling, displacement and panic.

She said that her grandchild, Sharif al-Namleh, does not sleep nor eats, and constantly asks for his parents, who were also critically injured during the Israeli aggression and are currently hospitalized in the West Bank, where doctors were forced to amputate their hands and feet in order to save their lives.

‘Children are bearing the brunt of a conflict that is not of their making. The fighting is inflicting terrible suffering on children and having a devastating impact on the infrastructure upon which they rely for their health, education, protection and wellbeing,” according to a UNICEF statement.
