RAMALLAH, August 7, 2014 (WAFA) – Member of the PLO Executive Committee Hanan Ashrawi, in a press release Thursday, said “We cannot go back to the status quo ante. We need not only to address the latest Israeli attack on Gaza and Israel’s war crimes, but also to resolve the root causes of such Israeli violations of international law and put an end to the military occupation of Palestine, its people and resources.”
Ashrawi made these comments in two separate meetings with French Consul General Hervé Magro and with acting British Consul General, Ben Saoul, at the PLO Headquarters in Ramallah.
Ashrawi called on Europe to take immediate action and adopt a serious initiative with concrete steps and measures that provides emergency relief and support to the people of Gaza, outlines a plan for short-term and long-term reconstruction in Gaza, and affects an end to the illegal blockade of Gaza and the Israeli occupation of Palestine.
Ashrawi stressed: “Just as the West Bank and Occupied East Jerusalem, Gaza is an integral of Palestine, and it must be treated as such by all members of the international community. Israel can no longer be given immunity for its attempts to sever parts of Palestine and impose its cruel siege on Gaza and its defenseless civilian population.”
“All states must act now to provide international protection for the Palestinian people,” stressed Ashrawi.
