RAMALLAH, August 21, 2014 – (WAFA) – PLO Executive Committee member Hanan Ashrawi met Thursday with a Norwegian Parliamentary delegation from the Christian Democratic Party, said the PLO Department of Culture and Information in a press release.
Ashrawi met the Norwegian parliamentary, that included its Head and Head of the Parliamentary Group Knut Arild Hareide, Deputy Head of the Parliamentary Group Hans Olav Syversen and representatives from the Norwegian Representative Office to the State of Palestine, at the PLO headquarters in Ramallah, where she welcomed them to Palestine.
In the meeting, Ashrawi expressed her deep appreciation to Norway for its consistent and positive position towards Palestine and its dedication to peace and justice.
She discussed the current horrific conditions in Gaza and the very cruel and draconian siege that the Palestinians of Gaza have been subjected to for the past eight years, the need for emergency and humanitarian relief in Gaza and the latest Palestinian political developments.
“Israel’s most recent assault on Gaza is not an isolated incident; it is part of an ongoing campaign of violence and terror in which Israel is bombing and shelling an innocent captive population with no way out. Gaza has become a disaster area in which Israel is creating a human tragedy of enormous proportions and committing grave war crimes” said Ashrawi.
“Gaza is not a separate entity; like the West Bank and Occupied East Jerusalem, it is an important part of Palestine, and Israel must be held to account for its fragmentation of Palestine and for its military occupation which includes apartheid walls, checkpoints, rings of settlements, home demolitions, the illegal annexation of Jerusalem, the revocation of Jerusalem IDs, and the inhuman blockade in Gaza,” stressed Ashrawi.
“Israel continues to act outside the law without any kind of accountability. We call on the international community to put an end to Israel’s impunity and for its total disregard for human lives, and to ensure the protection of the Palestinian people and the applicability of international law and international humanitarian law. There must be a global rule of law before Israel destroys the prospects of a viable Palestinian state and peace indefinitely,” concluded Ashrawi.
