RAMALLAH, May 2, 2013 (WAFA) – The British consul general in Jerusalem, Vincent Fean, Thursday expressed solidarity with and support for Palestinian journalists and for their right for freedom of expression.
Fean was speaking at a reception the British Consulate held in Ramallah marking World Press Freedom Day, which coincides on May 3. A large number of Palestinian and international figures and journalists attended the reception.
The British official spoke about the work and achievement of the Palestinian media and journalists and called on them to maintain and protect these accomplishments.
He acknowledged the right of the Palestinian journalists to move freely.
Head of the Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate, Abdel Nasser al-Najjar, called on the British government to pressure Israel to respect freedom of the press and the right of Palestinian journalists to freedom of movement as well.
