EU Missions Concerned over Israeli Raid of NGOs in Ramallah

JERUSALEM/RAMALLAH, December 19, 2012 (WAFA) – The European Union missions in Jerusalem and Ramallah said Tuesday they were “deeply concerned” by Israeli security forces’ raids of three Ramallah-based Palestinian non-governmental organizations (NGO).

The Israeli forces raided on December 11 the offices of Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, the Union of Palestinian Women Committees (UPWC) and the Palestinian NGO Network (PNGO) and seized files and computers after ransacking the premises.

The three organizations, said the missions, have implemented cooperation projects with the EU and some of its member states.

“Incursions by Israeli forces into Palestinian cities where the Palestinian Authority under the Oslo Accords assumes the powers and responsibilities for internal security and public order, put in jeopardy the internationally recognized success of Palestinian institution building efforts,” said the statement.

“The EU missions in Jerusalem and Ramallah see Palestinian civil society as an essential partner in the shared project of democratic state building,” it concluded.
