Hamdallah Seeks Relieving Gaza in Partnership with UNDP


RAMALLAH, August 25, 2014 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah said on Monday ‘we seek to relieve the suffering of Gaza in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The statement came as Hamdallah received the UNDP special representative in Palestine, Frode Mauring, in Ramallah, where they discussed ways to ensure the necessary support to Gaza population, inflicted by the Israeli military aggression.

Hamdallah stressed the importance of the role of international organizations, particularly the UNDP, in relieving the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza in all sectors, on top of which the food industry. He also stressed the UNDP’s role in evaluating the damage resulting from the aggression in preparation for the reconstruction of Gaza.

The PM called on Mauring to provide tents for the displaced Palestinians currently seeking temporary refuge in schools as well as to continue providing the people of Gaza with food.

Meanwhile, Mauring briefed Hamdallah on the UNDP’s actions on the ground, saying the organization has dispatched 120 engineers to Gaza to examine the damage and the needs, in addition to the estimated survey of funds needed to rebuild Gaza.
