RAMALLAH, October 28, 2013 (WAFA) – With the Israeli army’s arrest on Monday of two members the Palestinian Legislative Council, the total number of Palestinian parliamentarians held in prison in Israel has increased to 15, the Prisoner Club said Monday.
Israeli forces arrested Nizar Ramadan, 53, and Maher Badir, 56, from their homes in Hebron.
The Prisoner Club said six of the lawmakers come from Hebron, in the south of the West Bank. Three are from Jerusalem, three from Ramallah, including the secretary of the parliament, and one from Nablus.
While the majority of the arrested lawmakers are from the Reform and Change Bloc affiliated to Hamas, one parliament member, Marwan Barghouti, is from Fatah and he is serving five life terms.
Ahmad Saadat, head of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, was elected to the parliament in 2006 while serving a 30 prison sentence.
Nine of the lawmakers are held under administrative detention orders.
