JENIN, September 12, 2013 (WAFA) – Israeli bulldozers Thursday demolished a commercial building with dozens of stores, two garages and a stone warehouse in the village of Bartaa Alsharqiya, southwest of Jenin, located behind the segregation wall, according to a local source.
Member of the Bartaa village council, Tawfiq Qabha, told WAFA that a large military force entered the village, surrounded it from all sides and declared it a closed military zone before proceeding with the demolition.
Clashes erupted between soldiers and local residents who tried to stop the demolition.
The soldiers fired tear gas canisters towards the residents, causing several suffocation cases among them.
Israel lately handed residents demolition orders of around 20 shops and demolished 11 others.
