Israeli Medical Association Refuses Force-feeding of Hunger-striking Prisoners

TEL AVIV, June 10, 2014 – (WAFA) – Israeli Medical Association announced Tuesday that it opposed the force-feeding of Palestinian hunger-striking prisoners, in response to the Israeli parliament, Knesset, passing of a first reading of a bill to force-feed prisoners on hunger strike.

Chairperson of the Israeli Medical Association Leonid Eidelman reportedly issued a press release stressing that Israeli physicians would respect the Palestinian prisoners’ decision and would not force-feed them.

“We respect prisoners’ decision to organize a hunger-strike and that the physician’s duty is to help hunger-striking detainees stay alive, stressing that force-feeding is illegal.
