“Jewish State” Bill a Fatal Blow to Peace, says Foreign Ministry

RAMALLAH, November 24, 2014 (WAFA) – Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, in a statement Monday, said that the Israeli cabinet’s approval of a bill defining Israel as a Jewish state is a ‘fatal blow’ to the peace process, to negotiations, and to the two-state solution.

The Ministry said that under the new bill, no definite boundaries of the so called ‘Jewish state’ are defined, which means allowing for more settlement expansion based on a “biblical” narrative.

It added that the new legislation is aimed at ‘Judaizing’ the land of the State of Palestine, including East Jerusalem, and undermining all international efforts targeting to revive peace negotiations.

The law is further legalizing all racial policies adopted by the Israeli government against the Palestinian minority in Israel, as well as deprives them of equal citizenship rights in grave violation of international law of human rights and humanitarian international law, said the ministry.

The statement added that the repercussions of this law will not only affect Palestinians and Israelis, but will also affect the whole region as well as the world, particularly since this law is fraught with calls for a religious war.

It expressed ‘astonishment’ over what it described as the “silence of the international community” towards the significant rise in Israeli racism policies, calling upon the world to take a firm and clear stance against Israel’s racist measures, which reveals the true face of occupation.
