RAMALLAH, May 25, 2016 (WAFA) – Palestinian Cultural media reality, obstacles and prospects of development were discussed in a joint conference held on May 24, 2016, between Birzeit University’s Media Department and the Ministry of Culture, said a press statement issued by the Public Relations Department in Birzeit University
Throughout the conference, prominent journalists, writers and intellectuals tackled a range of issues regarding the linked role between media and culture.
The participants agreed on the importance of enhancing the media students’ knowledge in cultural media through organizing regular workshops and training courses that will enable them to develop the cultural content in the Palestinian media platforms.
The Faculty of Arts Dean Majdi Malki said that this conference explores the role media play in safeguarding the Palestinian identity promoting our culture and a carrier to the Palestinian cause.
“Media a mediator between culture and society development,” Majdi continued. ” Media in Palestine should offer public space for cultural knowledge and discourse. The papers that were presented today aimed to raise awareness of the significance, scale and topicality of the tasks if media was integrated with rich knowledge and culture.”
The Minister of Culture Ehab Bseiso stressed on the power of culture as a way of fighting against extinction and obliteration. ” Culture is our tool for resistance.
“The Palestinian narrative protection and promotion is a fundamental basis on which intercultural dialogue can be constructed. Without this, the world will never know the real story about the Palestinian cause.”
Bseiso said. “This conference is an essential step to outline policies and a professional strategy to better engage cultural issues in our media channels.”
He urged the public sector, societal and academic institutions to multiply efforts and organize roundtables, conferences and other activities, in order to share ideas and experiences and find ways to enhance the cultural structure in Palestine and better convey cultural productions to the public through media.
