RAMALLAH, April 26, 2016 (WAFA) – Jewish settlers’ ongoing intrusions into Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on the occasion of the Jewish holiday of Passover together with Jordan’s warning to Israel hit the front page headlines in the dailies.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Jewish settlers continued to force their way into the mosque compound.
The three dailies reported that Jordan warned Israel of “serious consequences” of Israeli violations against the mosque compound.
Al-Quds added in this regard that Jordan urged Israel to stop allowing troops and settlers into the mosque compound and to stop all violations against Palestinians and their right ]to worship[ at the site.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam highlighted that the majority of US senators signed a letter addressed to US President Barack Obama, urging him to increase military aid package to Israel.
Al-Quds reported President of Bar-Ilan University Rabbi Daniel Hershkowitz as expressing his concerns over boycott of Israeli academic institutions following Jews’ and Israelis’ involvement in it.
Al-Ayyam added with regards to the academic boycott that the Graduate Student Organizing Committee (GSOC), part of the New York University’s graduate student worker , voted to join the international boycott, divestment and sanctions movement (BDS) in support of Palestinian rights.
Regarding Palestinian diplomatic efforts to condemn Israeli settlement construction, al-Quds reported that Washington expressed its satisfaction with the Palestinian Authority’s decision to postpone the submission of a UN Security Council resolution condemning Israeli settlement construction.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam covered the conference convened by US and Palestine churches at the Carter Center in Atlanta.
Both dailies reported that the Atlanta Summit of Churches urged the US to adopt a balanced position on the Middle East peace process.
It is worth mentioning in this regard that the conference, titled Pursuing Peace and Strengthening Presence, was coordinated by the Presidential Higher Committee of Churches’ Affairs in Palestine.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted a number of French intellectuals as stating: “Israeli settlement is a major obstacle to Palestinian statehood.”
