Newspapers Review: Dailies Focus on Prisoners’ Release

RAMALLAH, October 29, 2013 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted on their front page Tuesday the expected release of 26 prisoners held for over 20 years most of them serving life sentences.

The papers reported on the preparations in the towns of the prisoners and the home welcoming celebrations once the prisoners are freed after mid-night Tuesday.

While al-Quds had also reported on the prisoners, its main front page story highlighted the Israeli air strike on Gaza and threats of a major military operation against Gaza if missiles are fired into Israel.

The papers reported as well on the Israeli settlers’ attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank as well as army demolition of homes and barns in other areas and arrests, including of lawmakers.

Al-Quds quoted an Israeli military source saying the army is on full alert in the West Bank following the recent wave of attacks.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah saying at Khirbet Makhoul in the Jordan Valley that 42 families who suffered losses due to Israeli measures will be compensated.
