Newspapers Review: Israeli Forces Deploys Security Reinforcements in Jerusalem

RAMALLAH, Aug 14, 2016 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Sunday focused on the deployment of security reinforcements by Israeli forces in Jerusalem ahead of the Tisha B’Av (the 9th of the Jewish month of Av).

On a different subject, al-Hayat Al-Jadida said President Mahmoud Abbas stressed on the importance of intra-Palestinian dialogue to coordinate positions in all issues.

Al-Hayat Al-Jadida and Al-Ayyam reported that Palestinian detainees in the Israeli Jails of Rimon, Negev, and Hadarim are due to go on a hunger strike on Tuesday in solidarity with six hunger striking administrative detainees.

Al-Quds reported that Palestinian hunger striker in Israeli jails Bilal al-Kayed – who has been on hunger strike for more than 60 days in protest of being detained without charge or trial – threatened to stop receiving water in case his detention was extended.

Al-Ayyam also reported that Israeli forces opened gunfire at Palestinian farmers to the east of Rafah in southern Gaza Strip on Saturday, forcing them to leave their lands for fear of being killed.

Al-Quds reported that Israeli settlers organized provocative rallies in Jerusalem, calling for unrestricted entry of Jews to the Islamic site of al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the city.
