Newspapers Review: Peace Talks Dominate Dailies

RAMALLAH, July 29, 2013 (WAFA) –  The three Palestinian Arabic dailies Monday tackled the start of Washington meetings to set bases for peace talks and the Israeli government consent to release 104 Palestinian prisoners.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on President Mahmoud Abbas receiving an invitation from the United State to send a Palestinian delegation to attend the first meeting for the launch of peace talks.

The paper printed a photo of Abbas while receiving the invitation from Stuart E. Jones, US ambassador to Jordan.

Al-Ayyam highlighted injuries and arrests at a demonstration in Ramallah organized by the Popular Front for the liberation of Palestine against the resumption of peace talks with Israel during which police was reported to have attacked the peaceful protesters.

The paper reported on Israelis and settlers’ negative reaction towards the Israeli government decision to release 104 prisoners, which came as a goodwill gesture to facilitate resumption of peace talks.

Meanwhile, Prisoners Minister Issa Qaraqi said that the release of pre-Oslo prisoners is a huge accomplishment for peace.
