Norwegian Foreign Ministry Condemns Killing of Teen, Demands Accountability of Perpetrators

OSLO July 3, 2014 (WAFA) – Norwegian Foreign Affairs Ministry Thursday condemned the killing of Palestinian teenager Mohammed Abu Khudair by Israeli settlers, demanding accountability of the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

Norway Foreign Affairs Minister, Burge Brandah, said “I condemn the killing of the Palestinian teenager in Jerusalem on Wednesday, revenge is totally unacceptable, even though the circumstances of the killing are still unclear, it is essential that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are held accountable, especially that the motive behind this act is clear; where there has been a kidnapping case of a 16 year old Palestinian who was subjected to killing and torture when he was on his way to the mosque in the town of Shuafat in East Jerusalem, there were also rioting and fighting in the city of Hebron in the West Bank after finding three young Israelis who were kidnapped and killed near Hebron on Monday.”

Brandah added “I was clear when I condemned the killing of the three Israeli teenagers earlier this week. At the same time, we saw that the search and inspecting operations that took place led to tragic killings of many Palestinians.” ”We expect Israel to act in accordance with their obligations under international law. This means that they should only use lethal force only when necessary to avoid the loss of lives.”

The Norwegian minister added “I am very concerned about the escalation of violence between Israelis and Palestinians. For this escalating conflict and the imposition of new sanctions will not bring any benefit, and we are sure that this will primarily affect the civilians. Therefore the sanctions and restrictions should be lessened’.

He stressed that the only way to end the violence is through a fair political process.
