RAMALLAH, September 3, 2014 – (WAFA) – The Palestinian cabinet confirmed Tuesday the importance of Palestinian unity and slammed Israel’s decision to annex 4,000 dunums of Palestinian land in southern West Bank.
In a press release issued about the 15th Cabinet weekly meeting, the Palestinian National Consensus Government, headed by Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah confirmed the importance to sustain the unity of the people of Palestine and their institutions, which started by establishing the consensus government before the Israeli occupation’s war on the Gaza Strip.
The cabinet asserted that the Palestinian unity has been reflected in the Cairo-based negotiations with the formation of a unified delegation of different Palestinian factions that negotiated on behalf of all Palestinians. During the Israeli occupation’s war on the Strip, Palestinians demonstrated their solidarity and unity, which strengthen their capabilities to protect their national right of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital through the consolidated goal of lifting the Israeli occupation’s siege on the Gaza Strip, ending the Israeli occupation’s Judiazation of Jerusalem and ending all forms of the Israeli occupation and its colonial policies that lasted for the past 74 years.
The Cabinet strongly rejected the Israeli occupation’s decision to annex about 4000 dunums of Palestinian land near Bethlehem and Hebron in the West Bank and considered this act a war crime and part of the continuous Israeli occupation’s violations and war against the Palestinian people in the occupied territory as well as a part of the colonial settlements expansion in the West Bank.
The Cabinet called on the UN Security Council, the General Assembly of the United Nations and Human Rights Council to send an International committee to investigate the Israeli occupation’s crimes of expropriation and confiscation of land, which clearly violates the human, national and individual rights of the Palestinians.
The Cabinet emphasized on the Palestinian national unity, which is represented by the national consensus government which serves the Palestinian people’s national interest rather than partisan agendas. The cabinet also reconfirmed the government’s support for the political efforts led by President Mahmoud Abbas to end the Israeli occupation’s siege on Gaza, control of Palestinian lands, colonial settlements policy and end all forms of the Israeli occupation.
The Cabinet ratified the National Strategy for exporting Palestinian products as a part of the government’s commitment to reinforce the capabilities of the Palestinian economy in order to reduce unemployment rates, dependence on International aid, and to diminish economic and social disparities between the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The strategy aims at fostering the integration of the Palestinian economy with the regional and global markets in order to promote the Palestinian products to potential markets.
The Cabinet endorsed the termination of its previous decision to assign Minister Shawki ALAyaseh to supervise the Ministry of Palestinian Detainees and ex-Detainees Affairs. This decision is based on the presidential decree to convert the Ministry of Detainees and ex-Detainees Affairs from a governmental institution into a higher national commission for prisoners to be directed by Mr. Issa Qaraqea’ under the supervision of the Palestinian presidency and the PLO.
